My name is Karen, and as an independent counsellor working in private practice, I offer adult counselling to individuals in Exeter and Newton Abbot.

About me

My experience:

As a counsellor, I’ve helped people with difficulties that have included low self-esteem, anger, anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, shame, trauma, depression, relationship issues, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), bereavement, self-harm and suicidal thoughts.

Initially I worked as a bereavement counsellor at North Devon Hospice, then as a volunteer counsellor for a counselling agency. In 2018, I set up in private practice delivering counselling to adults.

In addition to my private practice, I work with young people as a school counsellor.

My qualifications:

I have a BSc in Behavioural Science and an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Counselling.

Ongoing training informs my practice and personal development, for example, training on adolescents and risk, autism and ADHD, issues on shame, and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).

I’m a registered accredited member of the National Counselling Society (NCS) and hold Professional liability insurance. For working with children and vulnerable adults, I have a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate, and keep my safeguarding training updated. My work is regularly supervised by a qualified counselling supervisor.
