My name is Karen, and as an independent counsellor working in private practice, I offer adult counselling to individuals in Exeter and Newton Abbot.
As a counsellor, I’ve worked with people experiencing a broad range of problems, including low self-esteem, anger, anxiety, panic attacks, fears, phobias, depression, relationship issues, obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD), eating disorders, bereavement, self-harm and suicidal thoughts.
In addition to my private practice providing counselling to adults, I work as a school counsellor in both primary and secondary schools.
In the past, I worked as a bereavement counsellor supporting relatives of patients at North Devon Hospice, both before and after bereavement, and as a volunteer counsellor in a counselling agency.
I have a BSc in Behavioural Science and an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Counselling.
I attend on-going training as part of my personal development, for example, working on adolescents and risk, autism and ADHD, issues on shame, and Applied Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
I’m a registered accredited member of the National Counselling Society (NCS) and hold Professional liability insurance. For working with children and vulnerable adults, I have a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate, and keep my safeguarding training updated. My work is regularly supervised by a qualified counselling supervisor.
